Easy Knit Twist Ear Warmer Headband

Learn to knit this quick and easy ear warmer with a twist! This is a great project for beginner knitters who are looking for a quick project. This project is knit flat on straight knitting needles. The main fabric for this ear warmer is called slipped stitch ribbing.

Additionally, this project makes for a great gift knit because it is quick and you have the option to use various yarn weights from worsted (medium #4) to bulky (#5) just adjust your needles and number of stitches cast on using the instructions below.

Cast-On

Cast-on # stitches using the backward loop cast-on.

  • Worsted: 23 stitches

  • Light Bulky: 19 stitches

  • Bulky: 17 stitches

Set-Up Rows

Set Up Row 1: *Knit 1, Purl 1* repeat between the *s until 1 stitch remains, Knit 1

Set Up Row 2: Slip the 1st stitch purlwise, *Knit 1, Purl 1* repeat between the *s across the row

Repeat Rows

*Before you work across Repeat Row 1 for the first time, I recommend putting a stitch marker on the right side of your work, so that you can always keep track of the right and wrong sides.

Repeat Row 1 (Right Side / Front Side): Slip the 1st stitch, *Purl 1, slip a stitch with the yarn in back* repeat between the *s until 2 stitches remain, Purl 1, Knit 1

Repeat Row 2 (Wrong Side / Back Side): Slip the 1st stitch, *Knit 1, Purl 1* repeat between the *s across the row

Continue repeating Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until your work measures # inches.

  • Teen: 16” (41 cm)

  • Adult Small/Medium: 18” (46 cm)

Cast-Off

Cast-off all of the stitches in pattern. Cut your yarn leaving a 12” (30 cm) tail. This tail you will need for seaming.
